The Grainery Food Co-operative, located in Halifax Nova Scotia, is a non-profit, 100% volunteer run organization dedicated to selling local, organic and sustainably grown food that is affordable, tasty and nutritious. The Co-op format promotes community involvement which allows prices to be kept low, so that people of all economic backgrounds have access to healthy organic food. In addition, we strive to reduce environmental degradation by purchasing items in bulk with minimal or compostable packaging and provide the opportunity to refill products where possible.
The Grainery is a workers co-op where each member volunteers 6 hours per month to qualify for a 15% discount on purchases. These hours are spent in a variety of ways: shift at the Saturday Historic Farmers market or at the store, bagging bulk products, ordering, managing communications, organising events or doing maintenance work.
We are always seeking motivated new members. If you are intersted in joining the Grainery, or have any questions or thoughts, please feel free to contact us. Alternatively, drop by the end of the month (see the events schedule) for the members meeting.
The Grainery values people over profits, co-operation over competition. The Grainery Policies & Procedures Manual
